Locating a publication

After a successful catalogue search you have found one or several titles, which you may want to look into or borrow. The following situations may apply (respectively for books, reference works etc., and for journals):

Books/reference works

1

Available in digital form*). The catalogue entry includes a link which leads you directly to the digital version of the publication. All you have to do therefore is click this media link. The full text of the publication is available in digital form! Examples of documents available in full-text electronic form are dissertations from the TU/e, various dictionaries, encyclopedias and other reference works, and an increasing number of scientific reports and e-books.

2

Not available in digital form. If a publication is not available in digital form - as is still the case for most books -, carefully note the library section(s), the shelf code  and the information on availability which are mentioned at the location. Click the button Availability to see availability details. You will then know where to find the publication, where it is shelved and whether it is indeed available for borrowing or consulting.

As we can tell from the location information in the example below, the publication in question is in the collection of the Applied Physics library (NATUURKUNDE BIBL) from which it is currently on loan, and in the collection of the Mechanical and Chemical Engineering library (WenST BIBL.), where 1 or more copies are available. The shelf code (HAB 2000 CAL) indicates on which shelf the publication is stored. Click on the Availability button for detailed information on availability of copies/volumes.

Location
NATUURKUNDE BIBL. : HAB 2000 CAL On loan
  - Vol(s) : Book
WenST BIBL. : HAB 2000 CAL Copy available
  - Vol(s) : Book

Journals

1

Available in digital form*). Many journals in the collection are available in full text in digital form, especially the more recent volumes. If you have found the journal title you were looking for, you can see if the catalogue entry includes a media link which leads to the full text. In the example below you see under DIGITALE BIBLIOTHEEK : TUE that the journal is available in full text as from volume 21(1995).

2

Not available in digital form. If you have found a journal in the catalogue which is not available in digital form, or if you need an older volume of a digital journal, note the location information. Here you can see at which location the journal is held, and which volumes are available. For example:

Location
WenST BIBL.
  - Vol(s) : 1(1973)-...
Laatst ontvangen nr.: Vol. 27, no. 4
DIGITALE BIBLIOTHEEK : TUE
  - Vol(s) : 21(1995)-...

*) Note. Digital access to books, reference works and journals often depends on licenses which the Library has acquired. Access is then provided to restricted users only!
